What is the Challenge?
CIOs from hospitals across the country and around the world will share their HIT challenges and short-/long-term strategies in this Awards competition. The objective of the Challenge is to recognize, encourage and propel greater IT innovation resulting in improved quality and reduced costs of healthcare in hospitals.

Why should I attend?
This is a unique opportunity to compare hospital IT strategies — and benchmark your own — as they influence competitiveness, marketing, patient satisfaction, reduction of medical errors, and quality of care.

How does it work?
Hospital C-Level executives will briefly present their IT strategy in the Hospitals track. Judges will determine winners according to assessments of how IS/HIT fits into the overall strategy of the hospital; impact on patient safety, digital community, computerization and automation priorities; and corporate and marketing strategy. Industry peers will also in attendance to ask questions and learn from their colleagues.

How are hospitals classified?
Hospitals will be classified as follows:

Panel 1: Small rural hospitals (<100 beds)
Panel 2: Hospitals with 101-200 beds
Panel 3: Hospitals with 201+ beds
Panel 4: IDNs
Panel 5: International Hospitals

What will be included in the C-Level presentations?
Each timed presentation will be structured as follows:

1. Hospital's size, challenges and strengths, as well as its marketing and corporate strategy
2. Current HIT/IS status (i.e., what is automated) and short term and long-term plans
3. Expected benefits of this strategy
4. Challenges encountered and/or anticipated
5. Summary

When and where will the Challenge be held?
The next Hospital IT Strategy Challenge will be held in the Hospitals track during the main TEPR 2008 conference at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center in Florida.
